Default Wireless Internet set-up

I just purchased my PS3 and am having troubles getting attached to the internet. I have a wireless router, and my PC is working fine from it, but when I go through the Internet Connections Settings in the menu, pick Scan for wireless connection, it does find my ssid number. But when I choose automatic on the options (as I do on my PC) it times out trying to obtain an IP address, thus will not connect either. HELP!

I had similar problems with wireless routers. Do you have NTL Internet? If so, then you just have to select Dynamic IP at the beginning and it finds everything for you. If you have another server, like BT or Sky, then you have to ring them up and ask for customer information.

Ok, here we go. I had the same problem and couldn't figure out what to do for 2 weeks until a computer savvy friend came over to help.
I have an iMac and a MacBookPro all wirelessly connected to an Apple Airport Extreme router. Ikept doing all the EXACT things you are doing with no luck. Here's what he found...I was using the wrong WEP Key!!!! If you have a WEP Password encrypted at 128 bit, the WEP key should be approximately 26 characters for a 13 character password. To find out what your WEP key is, go to:
andrewscompanies.com/tools/wep.asp
Go down to the custom WEP Key and type in your password for your wireless network. This will then generate a very long #/letter code. THIS CODE IS YOUR WEP KEY!!!! Do NOT lose it!! Now go back to your PS3 and type this WEP key in carefully, making sure to be case sensitive. Lower case vs. upper case is important!!
This should then let you hook up to the internet. Worked for me, hope it works for you...!!!!
