# 1 | | PS3 HD Woes Hey there! I'm new to the forums, and am experiencing some HD woes.
I tried to sign up with those "PS3Forums.com", but they have this stupid rule where you have to reply to threads 25 times before you can start your own. That's awesome.
...And by awesome, I mean really, really crappy. :/
Anyways, I'm having some problems:
After laying down a wad of cash for the 60GB PS3, then laying down a wad of cash for a HDTV Set-top box, then some more cash for all the cables which failed me, I still cannot get my HD gaming experience to work.
Here's my situation: I have a Hitachi projection TV that's "HD Compliant" - which means that the TV isn't HD-ready right out of the box. You need a special device that "decodes" the HD signals to display correctly. (Or so I'm told).
So, as I said, I laid down some moolah for a StarChoice Motorola HD reciever. I chose this item mainly because it works with my existing Satellite connection, which saves me a lot of hassle and gives me some nice HD channels, too.
So anyways, I plug that thing into my TV and get it working, which is very nice. However, when I try to plug my system into it, or into the TV, it does not work. At all. Period. I've tried every possible combination with every possible kind of cable, still no luck...
First, I used some component cables for my PS3, and tried that into my TV with no avail. (I also bought a Digital Audio cable that doesn't work). Alright. No biggie. I have a DVI slot in my TV. All I need is an adapter, and everything will work out dandy.
So I run out and get myself a DVI - HDMI adapter, and an HDMI cord for the system. Again I try every possible combination of plugging it into my television and my Box. Still a no-go. So, am I doing something wrong? Does this just not work for me? Do I need a new TV or a new box? Help me. So far I've blown over $800 JUST to try and get my HD gaming experience to work. :/ And although it sounds like it... I am not made of cash!
Television:
Hitachi 46W500 Projection TV
My HD Box is a StarChoice Motorola DSR505 HD.
Please help me... I have the following PS3 related tools:
-HDMI Cable for PS3
-Component Cable for PS3
-DVI - HDMI Adapter
-Digital Audio Cable
Thanks for your time,
-Sid
P.S. Wow, that's great. I can't post URLs... which means I can't show you the images of what I'm talking about. :/ |

# 2 | | I should also add that my television supports modes: 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i.
What happens at the moment is I plug in the connections and get a black screen on my system. |

# 3 | | This may be stuff that you've alrerady tried, but this is the best I can offer.
1st, check that the right cables are in the right sockets, 2nd, check that your TV is set to the right channel. Some HD compliant TV's have separate channels for separate inputs, i.e: a component channel, an HDMI channel, a composite channel etc. etc. It's not all simply controled by the AV channel. Try plugging it in then cycling through all your available channels to see if anything comes up.
If you still get nothing then try plugging the console into a different TV and try to gett it working with that. If you can't get the console working on any TV then there may be something wrong with the console, but my best guess would be that you have a problem with your TV.
If all else fails then you should swing by your local electronics store and ask them for advice.
(Also, is your console actually powering up? i.e: is the only problem you have actually being able to get a picture? Can you get any sound?) |

# 4 | | Thank you - but problem is solved. I didn't realise that you had to hold down the power for ten seconds. |
