Now don;t take this as an attack on specifically the PSP, it's towards all/most portable consoles
I recently (yesterday) had a go on a friend's brand new PSP. He also owns a DS but thinks it is rubbish compared to the PSP (and i would have to agree with him) BUT he lives for his new PSP, and wants to do everything on it...despite he has the latest computer hardware, 7.1 surround, TV mounted to his wall, and all the latest consoles. Also, note that all of this is only in his BEDROOM. yikes!
Although he may have a shiny new PSP with a 1Gb memory stick and a load of other addons (he has the full works), i feel almost no desire to get one. I just don't see the point! Maybe it is because I have a laptop, and so can play better games anywhere he can but when i was playing Burnout on it yesterday i had to admit that i was struggling to follow what was happening. The gameplay was smooth, sound was coming out of his 7.1 BUT i just couldn't follow what was happening! I know it sounds strange but i was winning my races not because of the clarity of the screen, but because the walls seemed to be made of sponge and bounced me off and back into the right direction!
When i tried "Crach" mode i barely caused a stir, taking out one unfortunate taxi, and when you compare this to an easy $41,000,000 on the PS2 version i have to ask myself, what's going on!
I used to have a Nintendo Gameboy and then my sister got a Gameboy colour, and within a week she had forgotten about it and so i had it. I used to be able to play Mario or Zelda for about 2 hours and even got a friend to complete a section of it for me on the ferry over to france during a school trip, and that was fine. I just don't think these new high definition and high action games are very well suited to a screen this small. It's good that it is portable, but is it
too small for playing the latest fast-paced games?
What do you think?
